Notes from this group

  • Journal articles that are open access...how to prevent receiving requests for these? Create Local Holding Records that say you won't copy articles from these journal as requests come in. OR if you can pull OCLC Numbers you can batch load them and LDRs will be created and deflection will be added.
  • ILL Policy Directory: how does that relate to deflection? These are broad policies for lending. But remember that LDR policies trump ILL policies
  • Deflection is also useful for certain mongraph collections by creating Level 2 LDRs
  • Archives: build LDRs for those item requested often and insert policies. However, most archives are not cataloged..finding aids are created. If they are cataloged on OCLC it is only to state that these materials are owned...but never lent.
  • OCLC can only do automated processing on will not loan/will not copy. Other policies will not cause deflection.
  • Discussion of the patron not knowing if an item is available for interlibrary loan....will this ever change?
  • ILLIAD: what does the display look like?? If paired fields have been done, a summary statement will be seen. For multiple 866 fields all that the statement will say is that the item is available, without detail.
  • Paired fields are there, but if there is a reason to override it for display purposes...will an 852 override it? NO...maybe in the 866...if there is a 0.
  • Custom holdings information is gotten from the LDRs. If this cannot be determined from the 866 filed, then they look at the summary.
  • Library work flow determines who maintains local holdings and deflection policies. There was discussion of how this works at all institutions represented at the table.
